Mission

The Foundation’s Mission is to further the work of the Bernardine Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis by financially supporting and promoting their charitable works as well as works related to the healthcare, education, and human service needs of the Virginia Peninsula.

Vision

The Foundation’s Vision is to improve human conditions on the Virginia Peninsula by funding and assisting nonprofit organizations that address the needs in our community, especially as they relate to the poor and the disadvantaged.


Since 1998, the Bernardine Franciscan Sisters Foundation has awarded $13,446,745 to more than 90 nonprofits serving Newport News, Hampton, Poquoson, York County, and Gloucester County; as well as to Mary Immaculate Hospital and the Bernardine Franciscan Sisters to continue their ministries. Help Inc. – to support the winter shelter in Hampton VA.
Housing Development Corp of Hampton Roads – to renovate rental units for people in need.
Commonwealth Catholic Charitiesto provide access to basic needs for refugees and their families.
Bernardine Franciscan Sisters – to provide ESL, GED, citizen preparation, and computer training classes to 200-250 adult learners each year at the Mother Veronica Education Center in downtown Reading PA.
Bon Secours Mary Immaculate Hospitalto provide exceptional medical care in
the only faith-based hospital on the Peninsula.
