The Bernardine Franciscan Sisters Foundation partnered with United Way of the Virginia Peninsula to support their Pathways Out of Poverty initiative. This support included:

  • $100,000 to support the CAN Program offering evening hours.
     
  • $90,000 to support five new United Way Partner organizations whose programs focus on housing, as defined by the Foundation: 1) Physical housing that is constructed, rehabilitated, or acquired; 2) Shelter; 3) Temporary and Permanent Housing; and/or 4) Rental Assistance and Mortgage Assistance limited to eviction prevention.
    • BFSF will provide step-down funding to these five organizations for two additional years.
    • An additional $50,000 is available for these new partner organizations to help with the cost of audited financials, if needed.

The Foundation also awarded Bon Secours Mary Immaculate Hospital $33,000, and the Bernardine Franciscan Sisters were awarded $181,500 for the continuation of their ministries. Lastly, the Foundation awarded a total of $140,000 to the 14 nonprofits below, for Core Operating Support.
