The Bernardine Franciscan Sisters Foundation awarded $203,090 to the 2017-18 grantees below, as committed by the Board in 2017. In addition, the Foundation provided $30,000 for Ongoing Education Funds, and $50,000 in Set-Aside funds for unbudgeted emergencies from nonprofits. Lastly, the Foundation awarded $27,000 Mary Immaculate Hospital and $148,500 to the Bernardine Franciscan Sisters to further their ministries. The Foundation also awarded another $25,000 in unrestricted funds to the Bernardine Franciscan Sisters as they celebrate 125 years of service in the fields of education, healthcare and human services.
- Menchville House Ministries, Inc. – $5,000, Core Operating Support
- Natasha House – $10,000, Core Operating Support
- Center for Child and Family Services – $22,500 for the Peaceful Families Program
- Child Development Resources, Inc. – $17,500 for the Parents as Teachers Program
- Postpartum Support Virginia – $13,090 to expand its services to Newport News and Hampton
- Commonwealth Catholic Charities – $25,000 for Refugee Mental Health Support Services
- Housing Development Corporation of Hampton Roads – $10,000 to assist with providing a substantial down payment to purchase a house.
- Menchville House Ministries, Inc. – $10,000 to provide a summer camp for 5-12 year olds living at Menchville House
- Transitions Family Violence Services – $25,000 to fund Safe Horizon
- Virginia Beach Justice Initiative – $25,000 to provide services to the residents of “Restoring Hope,” a crisis stabilization home.
The two agencies listed below provide services, which fall in the focus area (domestic violence, abuse, neglect) which was selected for the 2017-18 and 2018-19 grant cycles. The Board of Directors is awarding them the following grants:
